I have posted some pictures from this before – I think it is a great and touching spectacle – and here are some pics I took in June 2007.

You know I love sunsets. You know I love fridge magnets! What better way to celebrate than to have a picture encapsulating both!

I'm Really Good....
This fridge magnet is one of the flag of Cornwall. Yes, we have a county that has its own flag. Who do they think they are? Anyway, I had to buy a flag in the form of a fridge magnet – no tat too precious – but how to photograph it for the fans of the fridge magnet cognoscenti. On a glorious Thursday night, just a week ago, we found ourselves on a cliff overlooking Kynance Cove as the sun went down…
So the keys prop up the magnet, the grass adds to the majesty, and the sun sets behind. Kernow forever!!!!!

A Lovely Sunset... Sunday 4th October 2009
Last night I took this photo of the sunset at Kynance Cove. It is the first downloaded from my phone, and there are a lot more to come.
Just amazing to be there…

Kynance Cove At Dusk - 8 October 2009
On the dashboard to my blog some other sites occasionally pop up. WordPress has some sort of gizmo whereby a post on this or another blog I might occasion to write is automatically added on to another blog somewhere in the wordpress empire.
This was in my linkback folder…

To put it mildly, I’m dead envious of these pictures of a sunset. I’ve taken a couple of decent ones, but quite often I have to trick them up a bit. But these are beautiful.
Not a bad blog either, it has to be said.
So have I been missed?
I had very irregular internet connection, so really could not be bothered to blog while I was up there, but had a great time, had spectacular weather, and the week was worth all we outlayed on it. The drive up was routine, getting up to Crubenmore (near Newtonmore) in 9 hours, but the drive back yesterday (including a 90 minute stop off in Perth) was much less fun.
Loads of pictures to share with you, so you’ll probably get bored seeing them..
A random selection..

The last photo was taken at 00:45 on Thursday morning. It doesn’t capture a lot of detail, but it does show you that there was blue sky over the back of the building in Crubenmore. It really never got totally dark….
Lots more to come….
I thought I would upload a couple of my old pictures from several trips in the past. Sights and sounds, places and views I’ve seen, all from the recesses of my “my pictures” file which was transferred some time ago…

Note on this one – I did not take this picture – I have some pictures somewhere that I never got developed from Almaty, but in lieu of this, I “borrowed this one from online”.

I know… a weak title. I put up a few pictures about six weeks ago, but here are some more…

Sun Down Over West End

Red Filtered Sunset

The Beloved and I are off to Bonny Scotland this summer, but will be leaving a ferocious unfed Rottweiler / Pitbull cross in the hallway for anyone who thinks he’s hard enough….
So to get me in the mood, some picture of UK scenery etc. for the blog. Starting above with Cambridge.

Sunset over Hunstanton Beach…

The sun goes down over the Fens….

Some pictures for this Good Friday of one of my favourite places in the United States. The beautiful state of Vermont, where I spent a couple of days last September. I particularly loved Burlington, a great town by the banks of Lake Champlain and I would love to return one day to the home of the Vermont Lake Monsters.
First up, a visit to the home of Unilever, sorry hippy liberals Ben and Jerry’s in Waterbury… This list of ice creams is on their entrance hall… I think.
I did dig the graveyard for the flavours though… that was clever. Vanity precludes me from revealing the face of Dmitri Old, while the Beloved is not to be shown online, so here’s a gravestone sans person…

On to Burlington, and a visit to Centennial Field for the Vermont Lake Monsters against the Tri-City Valley Cats (from Troy, NY)… Here is the field with the lights on…

DA MEAT HOOK!

We hit the road for a drive up through the Champlain Islands. A dull picture, I know, but here is a photo of the road over to the islands from the mainland.

We went on a boat trip on the Lake, and here’s a picture as we came out of the sheltered port at Burlington.

Looking Back to Burlington from Lake Champlain.

And an attempt to convey the sunshine on Lake Champlain

Burlington from the Lake…

I’ve done a sunset over Lake Champlain bit in the header above. Here is a larger picture…

A waterfall at the lovely town of Middlebury on the way south from Burlington.
There was a couple of nice shops in Middlebury, and also a very impressive church in the centre of the town. We also visited a very good country fair with excellent tastings.. Here is the church.

The waterfall from the side…

Two days in Vermont, and it was great. And in the meantime – Go Lake Monsters!
Some pictures from a lovely Sunday afternoon in London town… It was a beautiful, glorious afternoon as I took the beloved on the Thames Clipper up to the London Eye…

Tower Bridge, of course…

St. Paul’s Cathedral…

Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, House of Scoundrels, Rogues and Ponces more like…. From the top of the Eye..

Cape May Lighthouse on a Sunset Cruise…
Like it Mr O?
So we got on the boat after Cozumel to be told it was too windy to dock in the Bahamas. So we returned to Key West where I got a little intoxicated again – as I had done the week before when we visited it before the cruise.

To Belize.
A match report will be forthcoming, but for now, some pictures from the only (brief) time we stepped on to the Central American mainland (before whizzing off to the northern cayes)

Above – coming into Belize City from our tender vessel

There is something about the colour of that sea that gets to you every time. None of that off Southend.

I like this one because you can see the waves breaking on the reef behind this other snorkelling trip’s vessel. We snorkelled with stingrays at this location.

Front Street, San Pedro. The main mode of transport, and probably main cause of death, is golf carts.

The pilot boat /tender goes back to port as the sun sets over Belize

And another..

Sunset over the mountains as we leave Belize for our next stop…. Cozumel.
This time from Surfer’s Point, Western Australia…. One of the world’s premier surfing venues – but for this genteel soul, it was more a case of a west facing coast, and some decent waves to snap against…
A little flash as I try the sun setting by an over-hanging rock!
From behind the rocks..
From the car park, with just a touch of red filter…
Super-size picture over the beach….
The picture above was taken on he morning of 4 September 2008 at Pelham Lake, Rowe, Massachusetts. The full version is reprinted below…
It is truly a beautiful spot in the far north west corner of Massachusetts, near the border with Vermont. The previous evening the area had been lashed by thunderstorms and a few days later a tropical storm’s remnants rumbld through.
Here is a sunset from about 20 miles down the road from Rowe, looking out over the town of North Adams.
And this from the other side of this hill/mountain in Florida County.
More photos from my trips up there to follow over the next few months!
I’m in posting photos mood…. tonight, Alghero in Sardinia, where I went for a weekend sojourn in December 2007.
A view of the town across the bay / marina.
I see the Christmas Lights in the Old Town.
All along the watchtower – towards the Grotto.
The Grotto – they wouldn’t take the boats out to go visit….
Half-light….looking south.
And the inevitable sunset pictures…
My thanks to Sir Peter, my travelling colleague, for four of these shots (1,2,3 and 6)
A few more pictures of sunsets… tonight’s cruise around Cape May furnished me with some lovely shots…
The sun goes down over the Delaware Bay…
I know – red filter overload…..
The Cape May Lighthouse….
Sunset Beach ceremony from the water….
The Cape May Ferry Delaware sails off into the sunset for Lewes….
Ah yes, Lake Champlain, a hopelessly jingoistic boat cruise with decent beer. At the time I was one day out of dodgy inflamed toes, and a week away from acute otitis media, in this rack and ruined body of mine. The cruise was nice, but the sunset after an agreeable meal in the Daily Planet was also very nice. Photo time!
The pretty town of Burlington from Lake Champlain. According to the boat commentator, the forces of Benedict Arnold sneaked past us Brit while we were drinking tea. Yes, right.
Sunset over the marina in Burlington. The red filter is on, the sun is setting behind the clouds over the Adirondacks in New York State.
Here is a more close-up picture with more of a blue filter on it…..
I liked Burlington, Vermont. Very nice town.
In a rare sortie out of the flat due to this abominable earache and infection in my neck, I went down to the beautiful ceremony held every night at Sunset Beach in Cape May. Every night they lower the flag at the beach, usually in memory of a member of the armed forces (tonight in honour of a member from Delaware), at sunset and play God Bless America and Star Spangled Banner. It may seem a little twee to some outsider’s eyes, but I find the patriotism and remembrance very touching – and importantly genuine.
Tonight they also had a beautiful sunset. I’ve appended a couple of photos below…
